Wolfson has addressed consumer expectations of longer battery life, great sound quality and small form factor products in a number of ways. All our audio devices provide low playback power consumption and exceptional audio quality in low profile packaging requiring minimal external components and PCB area.
Wolfson have designed a number of highly efficient new amplifier technologies to improve battery life which include class G amplifiers for headphone drivers and class D speaker drivers.
Increasing levels of system on chip integration and new amplifier technologies offer system designers a reduction in BOM costs and PCB space, enabling cost sensitive handheld systems to be designed to fit smaller physical dimensions. Wolfson’s AudioPlus™ products integrate numerous system power management features with an audio codec in a compact BGA package. On chip regulators and DCDC converters provide power supplies for system application processors, memory devices, communication IC’s, LCD backlight LEDs and the integrated codec analogue and digital supplies. Our Class-W headphone amplifier technology removes bulky external headphone capacitors, the integrated FLL (frequency-locked loop) removes the need for an external oscillator and a time division multiplexed interface allows connection to multiple digital audio sources whilst minimizing pin count.
Enhanced multimedia experiences are offered by multiple audio inputs for functions such as microphone recording and line inputs for FM radio support. Stereo ADCs and a programmable Dynamic Range Controller ensure high quality recording for such inputs, as well as input bypass paths and highly flexible mixing features for an outstanding end user listening experience.
