Manufacturability
To confirm manufacturability of its products, Wolfson performs a range of standard tests, as defined in J-STD-020x.
Moisture Sensitivity
Wolfson categories all of its products according to their moisture sensitivity. The indicator of moisture sensitivity is a 'Moisture Sensitivity Level' (MSL) rating. The MSL rating of a device is the time period in which the moisture sensitive plastic package, once removed from the dry bag, can be exposed to an environment with a maximum temperature of 30°C and a relative humidity of 60% relative humidity. The MSL rating for a specific device can be found in the product data sheet, absolute maximum ratings section.
| MSL Level | Floor lifetime |
|---|---|
| MSL 1 | Unlimited at <30°C / 85% Relative humidity |
| MSL 2 | 1 Year at 30°C / 60% RH |
| MSL 2A | 4 Weeks at 30°C / 60% RH |
| MSL 3 | 168 Hours at 30°C / 60% RH |
| MSL 4 | 72 Hours at 30°C / 60% RH |
Bake if required before processing at 125°C for 24 hours
ESD Resilence
Wolfson qualifies all of its products to ensure they will sustain a level of electrostatic discharge (ESD). This is assessed against the Machine Model and Human Body Model, with typical minimum protection of 200V / 2kV respectively.
Latch-Up
Similarly resilience to device latch-up is assessed to ensure resilience to excessive voltage on any pin.
Reliability
Reliability testing is also performed, including high temperature operating life (HTOL), high temperature storage and temperature cycling, and temperature and humidity bias, all as defined in the JESD22 series.
Solderability
Solderability is assessed to ensure adequate joint integrity.
