Wolfson Audio Selected for Exciting New Linux Based Mobile Solution

Leading the way in Linux development for high performance audio in smart devices. Edinburgh, 22nd September 2008 - Wolfson Microelectronics is delighted to have been showcased by Unicon Systems, Inc. at LinuxWorld 2008.
Unicon Systems, developers of C-COTS™ mobile devices and scalable Systems-on-Display (SoD™) technologies for mobile and display applications, was awarded The LinuxWorld 2008 “Best Mobility Solution” Product Excellence Award for Hermes, the next generation mobile platform.
This Linux based Hermes Mobile Platform combines advanced architecture with a rich set of peripherals in an ultra-slim form factor, offering: flexibility, differentiation and a very cost effective, fast path to market for mobile system designers. Hermes uses Wolfson high performance multimedia audio with a WM8753 Dual audio interface CODEC, and two WM9001 class D speaker drivers, supported by Wolfson developed Linux drivers.
Dimitriy Ivanov, CTO, Unicon Systems, Inc. praised Wolfson’s Linux driver support, saying “Wolfson really leads the field in Linux driver development and support for high performance audio. Their outstanding software support has been a key enabler in selecting and bringing our award winning Hermes product to the market.”
Wolfson are also continuing to support other Linux tools and software. An innovative Wolfson voltage and current regulator has been recently adopted as part of the official Linux kernel, rendering high performance audio systems easily accessible to Linux users. This enhancement will be available in the Linux 2.6.27 release.
